Summer: The Breakup Season?
There’s something all high school sweethearts are scared of when they go away to college, and that’s the Turkey Dump. If you’ve never had a high school sweetheart, let me explain to you what the Turkey Dump is. In your first year of college, you’re usually there until your first visit home at Thanksgiving. That weekend is the weekend of the Turkey Dump, where you eat all the turkey you can, and dump your girlfriend, because you realize how many other options there are out there for you at college.
Facebook released statistics about their site in late 2010, and it showed that the highest break-up rates for young college students was the weekend of and the week following Thanksgiving.
So when is the highest break-up rate for adults? It’s a consistent line throughout the summer.
Scientists attribute the high break up rate to the physical connection people feel between strangers in the summer time. You’re getting more vitamins from the sun which promotes a higher libido, and being surrounded by such little clothing can be tempting for anyone.
Summer isn’t just the time of year when people break up, it’s also the second easiest time to find a match through online dating, beside Christmas.
There’s usually two sides to a break up- the breaker, and the breakee. If you’re the breakee, chances are you didn’t want the break up in the first place, which is why you see the increase of people looking for love on dating sites.
If you’ve just been broken up with during these great summer months, don’t concentrate on the breakup! Put your mind towards finding something, and someone, new to do!
